I was fortunate enough to be born into a very artistic family.  At a young age, I was taught by my parents and grandparents to draw, paint, sew, and do various other crafts.  As owners of a well-known live theater in Sacramento, California (JayRob Playhouse), my family allowed me to explore every aspect of theater arts, which in turn instilled a lifelong appreciation in all of the arts.

I was employed as a graphic artist as one of my first jobs and have used those skills throughout my life. During my children’s school years, I enjoyed teaching many different types of art in their classrooms such as drawing, painting, collage, tile mosaic, sewing, and landscape design.

One of my passions as an artist is to create art quilts because it allows me to incorporate many different types of media in my artwork.  I play with dyes, paints, beads, photographs, threads, and of course, fabrics such as cotton, batiks, and silk.  I would love for this type of art to be accepted and appreciated in main stream art galleries and this seems to be slowly happening with the help of organizations such as Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) and Fiber Art Network.

SAQA’s mission is to promote art quilts through education, exhibitions, professional development, documentation, and publications.  As a member of SAQA, my quilts have been juried into exhibits at many venues including San Jose Quilt and Textile Museum, Blue Line Gallery (Roseville, CA), and international exhibits.  My “Angel of Silver” quilt was juried into the Celebrating Silver Exhibit (part of SAQA’s 25th anniversary celebration) and debuted at the Houston International Quilt Festival in October 2014.  The exhibit continued to travel for almost three years to major venues in the United States, England, China, and Australia. Since this initial success, I have enjoyed participating in several other international juried exhibitions that have been seen in publications, in person exhibits, and online.

I also enjoy doing acrylic painting, pine needle basketry, felting, crochet, and mixed media collages.  Having a variety of different art forms to play with keeps my mind sharp and racing with new ideas!  I am inspired to use all different fiber media along with traditional art supplies to inspire creativity and imagination.
